TCN Restores Alaoji-Owerri Transmission Lines, Reconnects Full Power Supply To South-East, South-South
Electricity supply to parts of the South-East and South-South has received a major boost as the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) successfully restored the Alaoji-Owerri 132kV Transmission Lines 1 and 2 following the repair of a technical fault.
TCN announced that both transmission lines were re-energised on Wednesday evening after engineers completed emergency repairs on the affected infrastructure, bringing the Alaoji–Owerri transmission corridor back to full operation.
The company explained that Line 1 was initially restored on Tuesday, allowing partial electricity transmission to Imo State, Yenagoa in Bayelsa State and parts of Rivers State.
However, the line was temporarily de-energised to enable engineers safely repair Line 2, citing the risk of electromagnetic induction due to the close proximity of the high-voltage lines.
The temporary shutdown was approved by the Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) and carried out with the agreement of the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) and the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company (PHEDC).
With both lines now fully restored, TCN said EEDC and PHEDC can resume full electricity offtake for distribution to customers across the affected areas.
The company apologised for the disruption and reaffirmed its commitment to delivering a reliable and efficient national transmission network.
