Two Police Officers Killed As Kaduna Command Foils Kidnap, Rescues Nine Victims
A swift police response has foiled a kidnapping operation in Kaduna State, leading to the rescue of nine abducted victims, although two officers were later killed in an ambush while returning from the mission.
In a statement signed by DSP Mansir Hassan, Police Public Relations Officer, Kaduna State Police Command, the Kaduna State Police Command said the operation followed credible intelligence on 24 June that about 15 heavily armed bandits had abducted several farmers around Unguwan Sa’idu Village near Birnin Gwari.
The Area Commander of Birnin Gwari, the Divisional Police Officer, Police Mobile Force personnel and KADVIS operatives were immediately deployed to the area.
On sighting the security team, the bandits reportedly fled on motorcycles into the bush, abandoning their captives during a hot pursuit by the operatives.
The nine victims, who were found tied with ropes, were rescued unharmed and safely reunited with their families.
However, tragedy struck as the security team returned from the successful operation.
Two police officers were ambushed by suspected bandits lying in wait along the route. The officers sustained fatal gunshot wounds and died in the line of duty.
Commissioner of Police, CP Rabiu Muhammad, expressed condolences to the families and colleagues of the fallen officers, describing their sacrifice as a reflection of the courage and commitment of officers who risk their lives daily to protect the public.
He assured that investigations and tactical operations are ongoing to apprehend those responsible.
