Pan-African Parliament Mourns Death Of Angola Delegation Head Manuel Augusto
Africa’s parliamentary community is mourning the loss of a respected diplomat and advocate of continental unity, whose influence extended far beyond his home country of Angola.
The President of the Pan-African Parliament, Dr. Fateh Boutbig, has expressed profound sorrow over the death of Hon. Manuel Domingos Augusto, Head of Angola’s Delegation to the Pan-African Parliament (PAP).
In a condolence message, Dr. Boutbig described the late Augusto as a distinguished statesman, accomplished diplomat and committed Pan-Africanist whose dedication to African unity, peace and development earned him widespread respect across the continent.
Speaking on behalf of the PAP Bureau, parliamentarians and the entire parliamentary family, the PAP President extended condolences to the Government and people of Angola, the National Assembly of Angola, the Angolan delegation to the Pan-African Parliament, and the deceased’s family, friends and colleagues.
Dr. Boutbig noted that Augusto made invaluable contributions to parliamentary diplomacy and played a significant role in advancing the ideals and objectives of the African Union through the Pan-African Parliament.
He described the late lawmaker as a fountain of wisdom and a calming presence during challenging periods within the institution, adding that his humility, leadership and commitment to Africa would remain an enduring legacy for future generations.
“Africa has lost one of its finest sons,” Boutbig said, stressing that while Augusto’s passing leaves a significant void, his vision and dedication to the African cause would continue to inspire others.
The Pan-African Parliament President prayed for strength and comfort for the bereaved family and for the peaceful repose of the late statesman’s soul.
