PAP To Assess Ghana’s Implementation Of AfCFTA and Free Movement Protocol

In a bid to strengthen Africa’s economic integration and facilitate freer movement across borders, the Pan-African Parliament (PAP) Committee on Trade, Customs and Immigration Matters is set to embark on an assessment mission to the Republic of Ghana.

The mission will evaluate Ghana’s implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Guided Trade Initiative and advocate for the ratification of the African Union (AU) Protocol on the Free Movement of Persons, Right of Residence, and Right of Establishment.

As part of the visit, the delegation will tour the Noepe One Stop Border Post between Ghana and Togo to assess the progress made towards seamless continental trade and mobility of people, goods, and services.

The Committee’s engagement aims to deepen its understanding of Ghana’s achievements and challenges in trading under AfCFTA, as well as its cross-border trade dynamics with Togo.

Members will also hold discussions with key stakeholders, including government officials overseeing trade, customs, and immigration, the Trade Committee of Ghana’s Parliament, civil society representatives, and business associations.

This initiative underscores the Pan-African Parliament’s commitment to promoting and monitoring the implementation of African Union policies and programmes across Member States, in line with the AU’s vision of an integrated, prosperous, and peaceful Africa.
