NAWOJ Seeks Stronger Media-Security Partnership Ahead Of WINSEC Summit 2026
As conversations around national security and inclusive governance continue to gain prominence in Nigeria, the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) has intensified efforts to strengthen collaboration between the media and security institutions in promoting peace and stability across the country.
The call was made during a courtesy visit by NAWOJ leadership to the Commissioner of Police, Federal Capital Territory Command, Ahmed Mohammed, at the Command Headquarters in Abuja, ahead of the forthcoming Women in Security Summit and Awards (WINSEC) 2026, slated for June 30.
Speaking during the visit on behalf of NAWOJ National Chairperson, Hajia Aisha Ibrahim, the Chairperson of the Contact and Mobilisation Sub-Committee of WINSEC and NAWOJ FCT Chairperson, Comrade Bassey Ita-Ikpang, described WINSEC as a strategic platform aimed at deepening conversations on security, peacebuilding, leadership, gender inclusion, and national development.
She explained that the summit, organised by NAWOJ National in collaboration with the Nigeria Union of Journalists, media organisations, and Crime Reporters Global Nigeria, would bring together stakeholders from security agencies, governance circles, civil society, and the media.
According to her, the initiative is designed not only to amplify women’s voices in security discourse but also to recognise individuals and institutions contributing significantly to peace, safety, and national stability.
The NAWOJ leadership commended the Nigeria Police Force and the FCT Command for professionalism and commitment in addressing security challenges within the nation’s capital, noting that CP Ahmed Mohammed’s leadership style has continued to build public confidence and trust.
NAWOJ also appealed for the support and partnership of the FCT Police Command towards ensuring a successful and hitch-free summit.
Responding, CP Ahmed Mohammed applauded NAWOJ for initiating the WINSEC Summit and Awards.
He assured the association of the full support of the FCT Police Command, especially in providing adequate security for participants and guests.
He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to supporting initiatives that promote peace, security, and national development while pledging sustained collaboration with NAWOJ.
The meeting ended with both parties expressing readiness to deepen cooperation between the media and security agencies in advancing national cohesion and public safety.
