POWA Backs WINSEC Summit, Says Honours Will Inspire More Women In Security
Recognising women who protect lives and strengthen communities is not only a celebration of service but a powerful incentive for greater leadership in Nigeria’s security sector.
The President of the Police Officers’ Wives Association (POWA), Mrs Olufunmilola Mutiat Disu, has endorsed the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists’ (NAWOJ) Women in Security (WINSEC) Summit and Awards 2026, describing it as a timely initiative to honour outstanding women in security and encourage greater commitment to national service.
Speaking during a courtesy visit by a NAWOJ delegation in Abuja, Mrs Disu thanked the association for recognising her with an award, saying the honour would inspire her to intensify efforts towards the welfare of police families and the advancement of women.
NAWOJ National Chairperson, Comrade Aisha Ibrahim, said the maiden WINSEC Summit, scheduled for 5 August, would bring together key stakeholders to celebrate the achievements of women in security, promote strategic dialogue on national security and inspire more girls to pursue careers in the sector.
She also appealed to POWA to partner with the association to ensure the success of the inaugural summit, which will recognise exceptional contributions to peace, security and national development.
