FCC Cracks Down On Recruitment Violations, Warns MDAs Of Prosecution

As concerns grow over transparency and fairness in Nigeria’s public service recruitment process, the Federal Character Commission (FCC) has vowed to sanction and prosecute heads of Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) that violate approved recruitment procedures.

Speaking in Abuja, the Executive Chairman of the FCC, Hon. Hulayat Omidiran, warned that any agency found breaching the Federal Character Principle or conducting irregular recruitment exercises would face legal consequences under the FCC Establishment Act.

She said the Commission would no longer tolerate practices that undermine equitable representation and national balance in federal employment.

Under the new reforms, MDAs with over 125 vacancies must advertise positions in at least two national newspapers and on the Commission’s official website for a minimum of six weeks.

Agencies are also expected to notify the FCC before recruitment begins and allow the Commission to monitor interview processes.

The FCC further directed that all recruitment documents, including shortlisted candidates and successful applicants by state of origin, must be submitted for verification before a Certificate of Compliance is issued.

Omidiran also warned against charging applicants recruitment fees or outsourcing federal recruitment exercises to unauthorised private consultants, insisting that transparency and accountability remain non-negotiable in public service employment.
