AFCRD 2026: CDS Oluyede Honours Fallen Heroes, Vows Armed Forces Will Give No Quarter To Threats
As Nigeria marked the Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day (AFCRD) 2026, the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Gwabin Musa Oluyede, paid glowing tribute to fallen heroes and reassured Nigerians of the military’s unwavering resolve to defend the nation’s sovereignty and democracy.
In a goodwill message released in Abuja, General Oluyede described the occasion as a solemn moment of national reflection, honouring men and women of the Armed Forces of Nigeria who paid the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty.
He noted that their courage and patriotism secured the peace and liberty Nigerians enjoy today, stressing that their legacies would never be forgotten.
The CDS also commended officers and soldiers currently deployed across various theatres of operation, praising their professionalism, resilience and loyalty despite operating under difficult and dangerous conditions.
He declared that the Armed Forces would “give no quarter” to adversaries, vowing to root out all local and trans-border threats to national security.
General Oluyede reaffirmed that troop welfare remains a top priority under his military strategic philosophy, which emphasises joint operations, improved welfare, sound administration and collaboration with other security agencies and civil authorities.
He acknowledged the invaluable role of military families, particularly spouses, for sustaining the morale and focus of personnel on the фронтlines.
He further expressed deep appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, for his steadfast leadership and support, while calling on Nigerians to use the remembrance period to promote unity and reject divisive tendencies.
“As we wear the remembrance emblem, it symbolises our debt of gratitude to those who laid down their lives for our tomorrow,” the CDS said, praying for eternal rest for fallen heroes and enduring peace and prosperity for Nigeria.
