Nigeria’s counter-terrorism war in the North East recorded another decisive push as troops tightened the noose around those who plan, fund and fuel deadly attacks.

Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have dismantled a suicide bombing network linked to the Gamboru Market Mosque attack, following a series of intelligence-driven cordon-and-search operations in Adamawa State.

In the early hours of 5 January 2026, soldiers stormed the Yan Lemo area of Mubi South Local Government Area, arresting eight suspects, including two key facilitators believed to have played central roles in the bombing plot.

Items recovered from the suspects’ hideout included cash, mobile phones, ATM cards, identification documents and jewellery, all now undergoing forensic examination.

Investigators say a suspect already in custody positively identified the two principal suspects as suppliers of materials used in assembling the Improvised Explosive Device (IED), while other occupants of the residence were also linked to the terror network.

All suspects are currently in military custody for further interrogation.

In a related operation, troops intercepted suspected terrorist logistics in Mayo Nguli, Maiha Local Government Area, seizing 45 jerrycans of Premium Motor Spirit, about 1,125 litres, believed to have been smuggled to support terrorist activities.

The suppliers reportedly fled on sighting the troops, abandoning the fuel.

The military says the operations reflect its unwavering resolve to dismantle terror cells, disrupt supply chains and prevent future attacks, while urging residents to remain vigilant and continue supporting security agencies.
