Akwa Ibom Governor Honours Culture Commissioner With ₦20m Award For Christmas Unplugged Success

In Akwa Ibom, culture and tourism have taken centre stage as tools for unity, creativity and economic vibrancy, and the state government is rewarding excellence behind the scenes.

Governor Umo Bassey Eno has named the Honourable Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Dr Anieti Udofia, as Commissioner of the Year 2025, citing his exceptional leadership and the successful organisation of Christmas Unplugged 2025.

The announcement was made on Friday, 2 January 2026, at the Governor’s country home, where Pastor Eno praised Dr Udofia’s dedication, commitment and teamwork in delivering a widely acclaimed festive programme.

As part of the recognition, the Governor presented a cash gift of ₦20 million to Dr Udofia and approved an additional ₦100 million for the Christmas Unplugged Committee and its organising team, in appreciation of their collective efforts.

Governor Eno noted that the initiative significantly boosted the state’s cultural profile and festive appeal, adding that the Commissioner’s performance exemplified the administration’s vision of excellence and service delivery.

He also disclosed that a formal presentation of the award would take place at a forthcoming State Executive Council meeting, on a date to be announced.
