2026 A Season Of Renewal For INEC, Chairman Assures Staff Of Welfare and Credible Polls
As Nigeria steps into another crucial electoral year, confidence in democratic institutions is once again under the spotlight, and the leadership of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is setting the tone early.
INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, SAN, has described 2026 as a “season of renewal” for the Commission, reaffirming his commitment to staff welfare while tasking personnel to brace up for a demanding electoral calendar.
In a New Year message to National Commissioners, Resident Electoral Commissioners and staff nationwide, Prof. Amupitan stressed that the well-being of workers remains central to delivering credible elections and safeguarding the nation’s democracy.
Reflecting on 2025, the INEC Chairman expressed gratitude for the support he has received since assuming office in October, highlighting the successful conduct of the Anambra State governorship election as evidence of the Commission’s resilience and professionalism.
He noted that the unity, discipline and dedication displayed by staff underscored INEC’s capacity to protect the sanctity of the ballot.
Looking ahead, Prof. Amupitan drew attention to the Commission’s immediate responsibilities in 2026, including the FCT Area Council elections scheduled for February and the off-cycle governorship polls in Ekiti and Osun states.
He added that preparations for the next General Elections remain a top priority.
He assured Nigerians that INEC would deliver free, fair, credible and inclusive elections, built on teamwork, discipline and institutional integrity.
Reiterating his pledge to promote equity and a supportive work environment, the Chairman urged staff to serve with excellence and commitment to build an INEC “trusted by all and sundry”.
He concluded with prayers for good health and prosperity for staff and their families as they work towards strengthening Nigeria’s democracy.
