Osun Poll: Stakeholders Convene Citizens’ Town Hall To Boost Confidence Ahead Of Governorship Election
With just three weeks until the Osun State governorship election, efforts are intensifying to strengthen public trust, transparency and citizen participation in the electoral process.
A coalition of leading civil society organisations under the Civil Society Network on Election Integrity will on Sunday, July 26, host a Citizens’ Town Hall in Osogbo to provide a platform for direct engagement between voters and key electoral stakeholders ahead of the August 15 poll.
The town hall, scheduled for 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Adolak Event Hall, will bring together officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), security agencies, traditional and religious leaders, civil society groups, youth and women organisations, persons with disabilities, media practitioners and citizens.
The Osun State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mrs Olutoyin Babalola, and the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Gotan, are expected to lead discussions on election preparedness and security, while participants will have the opportunity to ask questions and make recommendations aimed at ensuring a credible election.
According to the organisers, the initiative is designed to deepen electoral accountability, encourage informed citizen participation and reinforce confidence in Nigeria’s democratic process.
The event will be broadcast live on ARISE Television, NTA, AIT and the Osun State Broadcasting Service, with additional livestreaming and digital coverage.
The Civil Society Network on Election Integrity comprises the Nigerian Women Trust Fund (NWTF), ElectHER, TAF Africa, The Kukah Centre, the International Press Centre (IPC), the Centre for Media and Society (CEMESO) and YIAGA Africa.
