Police Sting Smashes Criminal Networks As 22 Suspects Fall, Arms, Drugs Recovered Nationwide
In a renewed show of force against organised crime, intelligence-driven operations by the Nigeria Police Force have once again highlighted how strategic policing can disrupt criminal networks before they strike.
The Force Special Tactical Squad (STS) has arrested 22 suspects across several states for offences ranging from armed robbery, kidnapping and banditry to car snatching, impersonation, economic sabotage and drug trafficking.
The operations led to the recovery of six firearms, including assault rifles and a submachine gun, live ammunition, vehicles, motorcycles, illicit drugs and other incriminating items.
A major breakthrough occurred along the Kaduna-Abuja Expressway, where operatives intercepted a vehicle transporting 13 brand-new motorcycles alongside weapons, leading to the arrest of a suspect linked to armed robbery and economic sabotage.
In the Federal Capital Territory, a Kuje Custodial Centre escapee was rearrested for allegedly robbing a serving army officer, while another suspect was caught impersonating a police officer with a stolen tricycle and police paraphernalia in his possession.
Further arrests were made in Edo State over illegal firearms and violent community attacks, while suspected car-snatching syndicates were dismantled in Lagos and Ogun States.
In Nasarawa and neighbouring states, 12 suspects connected to banditry, kidnapping and cattle rustling were apprehended, with additional firearms recovered.
Commending the operatives, the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, described the operations as evidence of the Force’s commitment to safeguarding lives and dismantling criminal networks.
He also urged citizens to support law enforcement with timely and credible information.
Investigations are ongoing, and all suspects will be charged in court in accordance with the law.
