WHO Africa To Brief Journalists On Slowing Ebola Outbreak In DRC
After weeks of intense response, new data suggest the Ebola outbreak in Kasai, Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), may finally be easing.
The World Health Organisation (WHO) Africa says infections are showing a downward trend, though challenges remain in stamping out the virus completely.
To update journalists and the public, WHO Africa will hold an on-the-record press briefing on Thursday, 2 October 2025.
The session will feature leading experts from the WHO Regional Office for Africa and the DRC Ministry of Health, who will share the latest figures, progress in vaccination, lessons learned, and next steps in the response.
Among the panellists are Dr Patrick Abok, Acting Regional Emergencies Director; Dr Mory Keita, Incident Manager for the Ebola response; Dr Olga Tshitenge, a laboratory expert; and Dr Richard Omasumbu, the DRC Ministry of Health’s Ebola Incident Manager.
The briefing runs from 10:00–11:00 GMT and will be accessible online with interpretation in French. Journalists can register via this link and are encouraged to submit questions in advance in English or French.
The Kasai outbreak is the latest reminder of Ebola’s deadly persistence, but health officials stress that coordinated action, rapid vaccination, and strong community engagement remain the keys to stopping its spread.
