Edo Governor Ramps Up Oversight On Road Projects, Warns Contractors On Quality and Speed
Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has tightened oversight on key road projects across the state, warning contractors that only quality work delivered on schedule will be accepted.
The Governor, who inspected projects on his return from Irrua in Esan Central, toured the 9.3km Illeh–Ukhun Road in Esan West and the busy Moscow Junction corridor in Benin City.
He walked nearly three kilometres through major junctions, inspecting drainage systems and the road foundation while interacting with cheering residents and traders.
Okpebholo said his administration would not tolerate shoddy work, recalling that he had threatened to revoke some contracts two weeks earlier. “What I saw then was completely unacceptable.
Today, there has been progress, but my concern remains ensuring Edo people get value for money and relief from the traffic gridlock,” he said.
Contractor Engr. Ubani Stanley admitted the Governor’s firm stance had spurred improvements. “We took his warning seriously.
The quality and pace of work have improved, and we are committed to delivering on schedule,” he noted.
Okpebholo reaffirmed that road construction is central to his SHINE Agenda, pledging more interventions across the state to open up communities, ease mobility, and drive economic growth.
