AFCRD 2026: 4 Brigade Honours Fallen Heroes With Interdenominational Church Service In Benin
In moments of national reflection, the Armed Forces of Nigeria pause not only to remember the fallen, but to draw strength from their sacrifices.
It was in this spirit of gratitude and remembrance that the 4 Brigade of the Nigerian Army marked the Armed Forces Celebrations and Remembrance Day (AFCRD) 2026 with a solemn interdenominational church service in Benin City.
The service, held on January 11, 2026, brought together personnel from the Nigerian Army, Nigerian Air Force, Nigerian Legion, and other military formations, including the Nigerian Army School of Supply and Transport (NASST), the 107 Air Maritime Group of the Nigerian Air Force, and the Military Hospital.
The gathering was dedicated to honouring officers and soldiers who paid the supreme sacrifice in defence of Nigeria’s peace, unity, and sovereignty.
Delivering the sermon, Lieutenant Colonel (Rev) M.S. Dallys spoke on the theme “Celebration of Victory and Remembrance of the Fallen Heroes,” drawing his Bible reading from 1 Samuel 17:45-51.
He offered prayers for the continued victory of the Armed Forces in all operational theatres, while also committing the souls of fallen heroes, from the World Wars and the Nigerian Civil War to internal and external peacekeeping missions, into God’s eternal rest.
The colourful service featured senior military officers, with the Commandant of NASST, Major General A.O. Adegbite, and the Commander of the 107 Air Maritime Group, Nigerian Air Force, Air Commodore E.V. Onu, reading the First and Second Lessons, respectively.
In his remarks, the Commander 4 Brigade, Brigadier General A.O. Balogun, recalled that AFCRD 2026 activities in Edo State began with a special Juma’at prayer on Friday, 9 January.
He prayed for God’s mercy for fallen heroes and divine protection for serving, retired, and discharged personnel of the Armed Forces.
As Nigeria remembers its heroes, the message from Benin was clear: their sacrifices remain the foundation of the nation’s peace and resilience.
