Isioru Amasiri Debunks Allegations Of Extra-Judicial Killing, Calls For Independent Probe
By Ngwuoke Ngwuoke
The Isioru Amasiri, the security organ of Amasiri community in Afikpo North Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, has dismissed as false allegations that its members killed and beheaded an indigene of Oso Edda during renewed clashes over the disputed Okporojo land.
The accusation, made by Edda community leaders after a headless body was discovered in the area, claims that Amasiri warriors were responsible for the killing of one Mr Dick Nnachi.
In a swift rebuttal signed by its Chairman, Mr Chinweike Okocha Ezeh, and Secretary, Hon Etu Richard Obiahu, the Isioru Amasiri described the claims as “baseless, fabricated, and designed to incite further violence.”
The statement condemned the killing but firmly denied any involvement, stressing that no evidence, eyewitness accounts, video, or intelligence linked Amasiri indigenes to the crime.
It accused Oso Edda of using “false flags” and “dangerous incitement” to deflect attention from internal disputes and provoke reprisals.
The Isioru Amasiri noted that both communities have a long-standing land dispute, but insisted Amasiri people remain committed to peaceful resolution, citing numerous meetings convened by Ebonyi State officials and security agencies.
The community further alleged that militant elements from Oso Edda have in the past kidnapped Amasiri indigenes, including a retired soldier and his wife, and have waylaid travellers on the disputed route.
In its demands, Amasiri called for:
An immediate retraction of the allegations;
A full, impartial investigation by the Nigeria Police Force;
Protection from victimisation; and
A neutral security presence in buffer zones between the communities.
“We are farmers, businessmen, and professionals, known for our peaceful disposition and commitment to the rule of law,” the statement read. “We reject any attempt to label our community with such heinous acts.”
The Isioru Amasiri reaffirmed its commitment to peace but vowed to defend its people against defamation and unwarranted aggression, urging the police to act on its March 2025 petition over earlier attacks and kidnappings.
