CDS Rebrands Operation Safe Haven As ‘Operation Enduring Peace’ In Plateau
The Defence Headquarters has rebranded Operation Safe Haven as Operation Enduring Peace, signalling a major strategic shift towards sustainable security and stability in Plateau State and neighbouring regions.
Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Gwabin Musa, who announced the transition during a visit to troops in Jos, said the new operation would prioritise inter-agency collaboration, intelligence-led strategies, and community engagement.
He stressed that the goal is to secure not just temporary calm but lasting peace.
“It is time to restore enduring peace. The cycle of destruction and displacement must stop.
Between now and December, we must decisively combat the menace threatening our communities,” General Musa declared, assuring troops that their sacrifices will be recognised and rewarded.
Operation Enduring Peace will see the deployment of additional personnel, improved logistics, stronger operational assets, and enhanced welfare support for frontline troops.
The Armed Forces also emphasised that political leaders, traditional rulers, religious authorities, and communities must play active roles in rejecting violence, fostering reconciliation, and building trust.
The General Officer Commanding 3 Division and Commander of the operation, Major General EF Oyinlola, described the change as a proactive step that shifts focus from merely reacting to threats to anticipating and neutralising them before they escalate.
The Defence Headquarters reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding lives and property across Nigeria, adapting its strategies to counter evolving security threats.
