Amasiri Gets Fresh Hope As Enya Ogbonnia Returns As Development Centre Coordinator

Amasiri is looking towards a new chapter of grassroots leadership following the reinstatement and swearing-in of Baron Enya Ogbonnia as Coordinator of the Amasiri Development Centre.

Ogbonnia was among government appointees sworn into office by Ebonyi State Governor, Rt. Hon. Francis Nwifuru, on August 21, 2026, in a move expected to strengthen grassroots administration and restore confidence in local leadership.

Others inaugurated were Obinna Oko Enyim as Special Assistant on Internal Security, Afikpo Local Government Area; Mrs Patience Gabby Idam as a member of the Women Development Centre; and Pastor Nwokedi Amadi as a member of the Pilgrims Welfare Board.

Ogbonnia’s return has attracted particular attention in Amasiri, where residents and stakeholders are hoping for stronger unity, improved security and more effective coordination of government programmes.

However, the swearing-in has also renewed calls for broader reconciliation over issues arising from the crisis that affected the community.

Weekenders Magazine, through its Executive Director, Princess Joy Omagha Idam, said the development is an encouraging beginning but urged further steps to address unresolved concerns, including calls for the reinstatement of the Ezeogos, the release of youths reportedly still in detention and consideration of losses suffered by members of the community.

The crisis reportedly left families with destroyed property and economic losses running into billions of naira.

For Amasiri, the expectation is that the new leadership will go beyond administration to help rebuild trust, promote peace and support the social and economic recovery of the community.

The August 21 inauguration has therefore provided a fresh opportunity for stakeholders to work towards reconciliation, justice and sustainable development.
