Police Smash Human Trafficking Rings, Rescue Victims Across Three States
The Nigeria Police Force has dismantled two major human trafficking syndicates, rescuing several victims including children, pregnant women, and foreign nationals and arresting eleven suspects in coordinated raids across Enugu, Anambra, and Ondo States.
Acting on solid intelligence, officers from Zone 13 stormed multiple locations, uncovering a disturbing network of baby factories and illegal adoption rackets.
Among those arrested are Uzoamaka Ani (27), Joy Madu (52), and Victoria Onodu Akasike (56), all of whom confessed to child theft and illegal medical operations.
Victims included a seven-month-old baby, a four-year-old child, and two heavily pregnant women held against their will for the purpose of selling their newborns.
Meanwhile, in Ondo State, police rescued Ghanaian national David Angerinya after being lured into Nigeria by traffickers with false promises of travel to Canada.
Three suspects Hayford Nyamekye, Awine Alex, and Kojo Felix were arrested, while another 39 Ghanaians were found in similar conditions, many without valid documents.
Commending his men, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, said the operations highlight the Force’s unwavering commitment to stamping out trafficking and protecting the vulnerable.
He urged Nigerians to stay vigilant and report suspicious activities, adding, “Such crimes will not be tolerated under any guise.”
