NDLEA Repels Armed Attack During Cannabis Raid In Edo Forest
The Edo State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has revealed how its operatives bravely repelled an armed attack by suspected cannabis cultivators during a major operation in Owan West Local Government Area.
Commander Mitchell Ofoyeju, speaking in Benin, said the officers were ambushed with heavy gunfire as they exited the Ewere Uzebba forest after destroying over 28,000 kilograms of cannabis across 11 hectares of farmland on 8 July 2025.
Despite the sudden attack, the operatives stood their ground and overpowered the assailants with superior firepower.
“Our officers showed remarkable courage and resilience,” he said. “We will not be intimidated. These attacks only strengthen our resolve to rid our communities of drug-related threats.”
During the operation, 82 kilograms of processed cannabis were also recovered from a hut on one of the plantations. Although no officer was injured, one NDLEA vehicle was badly damaged by bullets.
Commander Ofoyeju urged the public to support the agency’s ongoing efforts to clamp down on illegal drug cultivation and trafficking. “We’re calling on residents of Edo to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities. This fight is for the safety and health of us all.”
