NANS Applauds Police For Round-the-Clock School Emergency Centres, Urges Students To Stay Alert
The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has hailed the Nigeria Police Force for setting up 24/7 emergency response centres dedicated to school-related incidents across the country.
Describing the move as “proactive and commendable,” NANS said the initiative aligns perfectly with the Federal Government’s Safe Schools Initiative and President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
The effort is spearheaded by the National Coordinator of the Schools Protection Squad, CP Abayomi Shogunle.
The centres, which were announced during a stakeholders’ meeting in Ibadan, are aimed at curbing rising insecurity in schools, including incidents of kidnapping and violence that have plagued education in some regions.
The emergency line 08077357777 is now active nationwide for quick incident reporting.
NANS President, Comrade Olushola Oladoja, commended the Inspector General of Police, Dr Kayode Egbetokun, for his “visionary leadership” in making school safety a top priority. He also praised the Police for adopting a collaborative approach, working with schools, local communities, and security agencies to strengthen protection measures.
“This is a big win for students, teachers and parents. The use of surveillance drones, CCTV cameras and the presence of trained personnel show the Police are taking school safety seriously,” Oladoja said.
He urged students to be security-conscious, report any suspicious activities, and actively engage in awareness campaigns organised by the Police.
NANS also encouraged students to work hand-in-hand with school authorities and security operatives to protect their campuses.
“This is about protecting our future. With secure schools, more children will stay in education, and we will move closer to realising Nigeria’s development goals,” Oladoja added.
The association reaffirmed its commitment to championing student welfare and supporting policies that ensure safe and uninterrupted learning nationwide.
