As the world commemorates the International Day of Education, the Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria, CSN, has called on the Nigerian government to adopt bold strategies in revitalising the nation’s education sector.
The Church emphasised that sustainable national development hinges on robust investments in education and the creation of policies that foster inclusivity and accessibility for all citizens.
In a message jointly signed by the Directo, Church and Society, CSN, Reverend father Peter Audu, the Director, Social Communications, CSN Reverend father Michael Umoh and the Secretary General, CSN, Reverend father Michael Banjo, the Church stressed that education remains a powerful tool for addressing poverty, inequality, and social challenges.
They urged the government to strengthen public schools, prioritise teacher training, and enhance funding to ensure that every child receives quality education.
Highlighting the importance of collaboration, the Church also encouraged private stakeholders, Civil Society, and faith-based organisations to synergise in transforming the education system into a beacon of hope for the next generation.
This reminder from the Catholic Church comes at a crucial time, as millions of Nigerian children face barriers to education, ranging from poverty to insecurity.
