The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has issued a strong statement of solidarity with Nigeria and other member states, dismissing recent allegations of terrorism sponsorship as baseless and unfounded.

A statement released on December by the Communication Directorate in Abuja, reaffirmed ECOWAS’s commitment to defending the sovereignty, integrity, and reputation of its members.

It categorically refuted claims suggesting Nigeria, a longstanding advocate for regional peace and security, could be involved in such activities.

“The Commission stands firmly with Nigeria and other ECOWAS member states, rejecting unfounded accusations that undermine their integrity,” the statement read.

ECOWAS highlighted Nigeria’s pivotal role in fostering regional stability, citing the successes of the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) in combating insurgency and promoting peace across West Africa.

The regional bloc also called for dialogue and evidence-based discourse, urging all states to refrain from making unsupported allegations. Analysts have praised ECOWAS’s stance, describing it as a powerful reminder of the importance of unity in addressing shared security challenges.

As ECOWAS reaffirms its commitment to safeguarding its members, the spotlight now turns to how these pledges will translate into actionable strategies to protect sovereignty and foster collaboration across the region.
