ECOWAS, Germany Deepen Strategic Partnership For Regional Growth

For millions of people across West Africa, stronger regional cooperation could mean better economic opportunities, improved stability and a more secure future.

Against this backdrop, the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and Germany have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening ties in pursuit of regional development and integration.

The commitment was renewed when the Vice-President of the ECOWAS Commission, Mr Anthony Oluwatosin Ogunjimi, received a German Bundestag delegation led by Dr Wolfgang Stefinger in Abuja on Thursday, 29 October 2026.

The delegation comprised members of the Bundestag Committee on Economic Cooperation and Development and the German Federal Parliament.

Discussions focused on shared regional challenges and opportunities for deeper cooperation, particularly in economic development, sustainability and regional integration.

Ogunjimi, who received the delegation on behalf of the ECOWAS Commission President, General Birame Diop, was accompanied by the Secretary-General of the ECOWAS Parliament, alongside commissioners and directors of the Commission.

Both sides stressed the need to build on a partnership anchored on trust, dialogue and practical action to promote peace, stability and inclusive development across West Africa.

The renewed commitment signals a shared determination to strengthen ECOWAS-Germany relations and advance initiatives that improve the lives of people across the region.
