As Nigerians embark on end-of-year journeys, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has intensified its safety campaigns to address the rising wave of road crashes.

For this, Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed has issued a stern warning to passengers, urging them to avoid boarding vehicles with compromised safety standards and to remain vigilant about drivers’ behavior.

The warning comes in the wake of two tragic crashes in Kwara State and Ondo State on December 26 and 28, respectively.

Both incidents, according to the FRSC, were linked to driver recklessness and negligence, which passengers could have reported or intervened in.

Corps Marshal Mohammed stressed the importance of passengers playing active roles in ensuring their safety.

He advised commuters to assess drivers for signs of recklessness or intoxication, verify the roadworthiness of vehicles, and report unsafe practices to FRSC or security agencies.

“Your vigilance can save lives,” the Corps Marshal emphasised, adding that passenger involvement complements FRSC’s safety measures aimed at reducing road fatalities.

As travel peaks during the festive season, this call to action serves as a reminder that road safety is the responsibility of all.
