In a bid to enhance road safety and reduce accidents on Nigerian highways, the Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Shehu Mohammed, has called on traditional rulers to join the campaign against road traffic crashes.

During his year-end traffic monitoring tour, which took him through the Abuja-Lokoja expressway, Obajana, and Owo in Ondo State, the Corps Marshal paid a visit toOba (Dr) Ajibade Gbadegesin Ogunoye III, the Olowo of Owo.

He highlighted the strategic importance of Owo town as a critical corridor connecting the Southwest, South-South, and North-Central regions of Nigeria.

The Corps Marshal acknowledged the respect and authority traditional rulers command emphasising their crucial role in promoting road safety awareness.

He urged them to leverage their influence to educate communities about safe driving practices, the risks of speeding, and the importance of vehicle maintenance.

“This partnership underscores our belief that road safety is a collective responsibility. Traditional leaders can mobilise their communities to embrace safer road habits, complementing our enforcement efforts,” the Corps Marshal stated.

He also called on passengers and transport unions to play active roles in ensuring safer roads.

The Corps Marshal, encouraged commuters to challenge reckless driving and urged transport unions to enforce rules against overloading and impaired driving within their ranks.

With traditional institutions, commuters, and transport unions on board, the FRSC aims to create an inclusive, community-driven approach to road safety, reinforcing its commitment to reducing road crashes and fatalities across Nigeria.
