ECOWAS Parliament To Convene Regional Meeting On Renewable Energy, Rural Development In Senegal
The ECOWAS Parliament will convene a delocalised meeting of its Joint Committee on Energy and Mines, Infrastructure, and Agriculture, Environment and Natural Resources in Dakar, Senegal, from 15 to 19 June 2026, with a strong focus on renewable energy and rural economic transformation.
The five-day meeting will bring together parliamentarians, policymakers and stakeholders from across the ECOWAS region to deliberate on strategies for expanding energy access, promoting renewable energy development and accelerating rural electrification.
According to the agenda, discussions will cover regional energy policies, the status of renewable energy development and rural electricity access, the impact of energy access on rural economies, and the Regional Off-Grid Electricity Access Project (ROGEAP).
Participants will also examine financing challenges and opportunities in the renewable energy sector, including innovative funding models and lessons from Senegal.
A panel session will focus on unlocking rural economic transformation through renewable energy and mobilising investment for rural electrification across the ECOWAS sub-region.
The programme also includes a site visit, town hall meeting and an exhibition showcasing renewable energy innovations.
The opening ceremony will feature addresses by Senegalese and ECOWAS officials, including representatives of the ECOWAS Commission, the Government of Senegal and the ECOWAS Parliament.
The meeting is expected to strengthen regional cooperation and generate practical recommendations aimed at improving energy access and supporting sustainable development in West Africa.
