Operation FANSAN YAMMA Intensifies Offensive Against Terrorist Networks

Operation FANSAN YAMMA has stepped up its offensive against terrorists and armed criminal groups across the North-West, with troops and the Air Component launching simultaneous operations to disrupt their movements, logistics and attempts to establish new bases.

The Joint Task Force North-West said the latest offensive, tagged Operation CLEAN SWEEP IV, is targeting terrorist networks across the region, including the Lakurawa group and other elements operating around the River Niger axis and Kainji Lake National Park.

In Katsina State, troops of Sector 2 carried out a clearance operation on Wednesday around suspected terrorist enclaves in Dutsinma Local Government Area, forcing the terrorists to abandon their positions and flee into surrounding bushes.

In Zamfara State, the Air Component also carried out precision strikes after intelligence indicated that terrorists on motorcycles had converged in Anka Local Government Area. The strikes reportedly neutralised scores of terrorists, while survivors abandoned their motorcycles and fled into the bushes.

The military said the operation is also aimed at preventing the infiltration and reinforcement of Lakurawa elements through border areas and denying terrorist groups access to routes they could use to move personnel and logistics.

The Theatre Command said clearance operations are continuing, with troops maintaining pressure on the groups to prevent them from regrouping or establishing footholds in communities across the North-West.
