80th Independence: India’s 2047 Dream Must Lift Every Citizen … President Murmu
India’s ambition to become a developed nation by 2047 must translate into better lives for ordinary citizens, President Droupadi Murmu has said.
Reading Murmu’s Independence Day address at India’s 80th Independence Day celebration in Abuja, High Commissioner to Nigeria Abhishek Singh said the Viksit Bharat vision is anchored on inclusive growth, women’s empowerment, security and national development.
Murmu cited more than 25 crore people lifted out of poverty and nearly 59 crore brought into the banking system through Jan Dhan Yojana, including over 32 crore women. She also highlighted free food support for more than 80 crore people and Ayushman Bharat health cover of up to ₹5 lakh for 60 crore citizens.
She said women’s economic and social participation was expanding, with more than 10 crore women in Self-Help Groups and the three-crore Lakhpati Didi target already achieved.
The President also praised India’s armed forces, pointed to its response to terrorism and progress against Naxalism, and reaffirmed the country’s commitment to peace, dialogue and stronger representation for developing nations.
Murmu urged citizens to protect the environment and stressed that building a stronger, inclusive India remains a shared responsibility.
