Oru Hails Idris, ARCON DG Over Advertising Offences Tribunal
The effectiveness of Nigeria’s new Advertising Offences Tribunal will be crucial to restoring confidence, enforcing professional standards and promoting ethical practice in the advertising industry, advertising practitioner Mr Oru Leonard Oru, FRPA, has said.
Oru, who spoke Wednesday, commended Mohammed Idris, Minister of Information and National Orientation. Oru also praised ARCON’s Director-General for inaugurating the Tribunal.
He described the development as a significant step towards strengthening regulation and accountability in Nigeria’s advertising and marketing communications industry.
Oru stated the Tribunal’s credibility hinges on operating fairly, with integrity and professionalism. It must also hold practitioners and businesses to account for breaches of industry standards.
“The inauguration of the Advertising Offences Tribunal is a welcome development. Its effectiveness will shape Nigeria’s advertising future. It will also raise professionalism within the sector. He said.
He commended Idris for supporting efforts to strengthen the industry’s regulatory framework and praised the ARCON DG for his leadership and commitment to professionalising advertising practice.
Oru urged members of the Tribunal to discharge their responsibilities impartially, saying its success would ultimately depend on the confidence it earns from practitioners, businesses and the public.
He also called on stakeholders to support the Tribunal and other regulatory measures aimed at building a more transparent, credible and professionally driven advertising industry.
