ECOWAS Commission President Bids Farewell To Ivorian President

The end of Omar Alieu Touray’s four-year tenure as President of the ECOWAS Commission has taken him to Abidjan for a farewell meeting with Côte d’Ivoire’s President, Alassane Ouattara.

Touray was received by Ouattara on Wednesday, 12 August 2026, where he expressed appreciation for the Ivorian leader’s support for ECOWAS and regional integration throughout his tenure.

He said the Commission faced major political, economic, social and security challenges during his four years in office, but its response was strengthened by the guidance and support of West African leaders, including President Ouattara.

Touray’s tenure as head of the ECOWAS Commission ended in July 2026.
