ECOWAS Marks 51st Anniversary, Mobilises Women For Vision 2050 In Côte d’Ivoire

An anniversary celebration became a platform for shaping West Africa’s future as women leaders, civil society groups and regional stakeholders gathered in Côte d’Ivoire to advance ECOWAS Vision 2050 and strengthen peace-building efforts across the region

The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has marked its 51st anniversary in Côte d’Ivoire with a renewed commitment to peace, regional integration and citizen participation, placing women at the centre of efforts to build a more prosperous West Africa.

The ECOWAS Permanent Delegation in Côte d’Ivoire organised a series of activities in Grand-Bassam on June 8 and 9, 2026, to commemorate the milestone under the theme of peace, regional integration and civic engagement.

A key highlight of the celebration was a workshop focused on promoting ECOWAS Vision 2050 and the Early Warning and Response System as critical tools for peace, security and sustainable development in the region.

The event brought together queen mothers, leaders of women’s organisations, civil society representatives, institutional partners, media practitioners and community stakeholders, who discussed strategies for strengthening regional cooperation and preventing conflicts.

Organisers said the engagement reflects ECOWAS’ commitment to empowering women and local communities as drivers of peace and development across West Africa as the regional bloc charts its course towards Vision 2050.
