From Markets To Media: NAWOJ, VNDC Join Forces To Tackle Vaccine Misinformation Among Women

In many Nigerian communities, the marketplace is more than a hub for trade, it is a powerful centre for information exchange, influence, and social connection.

Recognising this, the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), FCT Chapter, is turning everyday spaces into platforms for advocacy and health education.

NAWOJ FCT has announced plans to partner with the Vaccine Network for Disease Control (VNDC) on a Marketplace Advocacy initiative aimed at empowering women with knowledge about their social, economic, and democratic rights, while also addressing critical health issues.

The Chairperson of NAWOJ FCT, Comrade Bassey Ita Ikpang, disclosed this during a courtesy visit to the Executive Director of VNDC, Dr Chika Offor, in Abuja.

She emphasised the association’s commitment to using journalism as a tool for social change, particularly in amplifying the voices of women and promoting gender equity.

Ikpang noted that the collaboration would focus on raising awareness around health, education, and economic empowerment, especially among grassroots women.

She also commended Dr Offor for her impactful role in advancing vaccine awareness and strengthening public health systems, particularly for vulnerable populations.

Both organisations underscored the importance of strategic partnerships in combating misinformation and improving public understanding of vaccines and other health-related issues.

As part of the initiative, NAWOJ FCT has invited Dr Offor to serve as a guest speaker at its upcoming Marketplace Event scheduled for April 30, 2026.

The event will provide a platform for direct engagement with women on misconceptions surrounding vaccine uptake and broader health concerns.

In her response, Dr Offor pledged VNDC’s continued support, emphasising the importance of women embracing innovation and informed decision-making in health matters for the benefit of their families and society.

The partnership signals a proactive step towards building healthier communities by meeting women where they are, at the heart of daily life and commerce.
