Seven kidnapped victims, including a four-year-old child, have been rescued while several suspects were arrested in a series of police operations across Nigeria in the past 48 hours.

The latest operational report by the Nigeria Police Force also recorded the recovery of firearms, the neutralisation of two suspected kidnappers in Imo State and investigations into several murder and culpable homicide cases.

In Benue State, police tactical teams and local vigilantes rescued five passengers abducted along the Ankpechi-Omutela highway after a gun battle with their captors.

One victim sustained a gunshot injury and was taken for treatment.

In Imo, two suspected kidnappers were killed during a gun duel as police and vigilantes stormed a forest where two victims were being held. The victims were rescued, although a vigilante was fatally wounded.

Police also arrested two suspects in Taraba over the alleged abduction of two people and the killing of two others. In contrast, another suspect was arrested in Adamawa over the alleged murder of a woman, with the suspected weapon recovered.

Other cases under investigation include a shooting at a wedding in Kano that left one person dead, the discovery of a murdered woman in a church in Osun and the death of a security guard following a scuffle in Abuja.

In Niger State, five people died after a canoe capsized in the Kudi River, while in Bauchi, suspected bandits killed one person and abducted another.

The police said investigations and operations to apprehend other suspects and rescue the remaining abducted victim were ongoing.
