Trailblazers In Media: Onyilo, Ike Earn NIPR Honour As Women Redefine Leadership

In a media landscape where credibility and influence increasingly intersect, two prominent Nigerian women journalists are being recognised for shaping both narratives and leadership.

The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), FCT Chapter, has congratulated Evelyn Onyilo and Grace Ike on their induction into the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR).

Describing the honour as well-deserved, NAWOJ FCT said the recognition reflects the duo’s longstanding commitment to professionalism, ethical communication and excellence in public engagement.

Onyilo, a former National President of NAWOJ and veteran broadcaster with the Nigerian Television Authority, was praised for her over two decades of impactful journalism and continued influence as a publisher and mentor to women in the media.

Ike, who made history as the first female Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in the FCT Council in over 40 years, was commended for her transformational leadership and people-centred reforms that have strengthened journalists’ welfare and professional capacity.

NAWOJ FCT noted that their induction is not only a personal milestone but also a significant moment for women in journalism, reinforcing the importance of ethical storytelling and strategic communication in national development.

In a statement signed by the chairperson of the association, Comrade Bassey Ita-Ikpang, NAWOJ FCT, expressed confidence that both women will bring their wealth of experience to further advance public relations practice in Nigeria.
