Empowering Women Through Global Partnerships: NAWOJ FCT Courts Polish Embassy Support

In a world where collaboration is increasingly shaping the success of gender-focused initiatives, the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), FCT Chapter, is taking strategic steps to amplify opportunities for women through international partnerships.

NAWOJ FCT has sought collaboration with the Polish Embassy in Abuja to strengthen women’s empowerment programmes and expand the impact of its advocacy.

This move was unveiled during a courtesy visit by the Chairperson of NAWOJ FCT, Comrade Bassey Ita-Ikpang, and members of the association to the Polish Ambassador to Nigeria.

Speaking during the visit, Ita-Ikpang outlined the association’s upcoming activities to mark International Women’s Day, including a Market Place Advocacy on March 26 and a Capacity Building Workshop for female journalists on March 27.

She called for the Embassy’s support to deepen the reach and effectiveness of these initiatives.

She described NAWOJ FCT as a professional body of over 350 female journalists committed to promoting women’s rights, responsible journalism, and advocacy for vulnerable groups.

“At NAWOJ, we strongly believe that collaboration remains key in advancing gender equality, media professionalism, and sustainable development,” she said, noting that the partnership would foster meaningful engagement and shared progress.

Ita-Ikpang also commended Poland’s contributions to global development, particularly in education, innovation, and democratic values, as well as its efforts in strengthening bilateral relations with Nigeria.

Responding, the Polish Ambassador to Nigeria, Michal Cygan, expressed readiness to partner with NAWOJ FCT, assuring the Embassy’s support through training opportunities and exchange programmes.

He emphasised a commitment to promoting women’s participation in political leadership, as well as enhancing visibility and advocacy for women-focused initiatives.

The proposed partnership is expected to boost women’s voices, improve access to knowledge, and create new opportunities for social and economic advancement.
