Easter Alert: IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu Orders Nationwide Security Sweep
As millions of Christians across Nigeria prepare to mark Easter, security concerns have once again taken centre stage, prompting a nationwide directive aimed at preventing any disruption during the sacred celebration.
The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has ordered a massive deployment of personnel nationwide to ensure a peaceful and hitch-free Easter season.
The directive mandates Commissioners of Police and tactical commanders to activate robust security measures in all states and the Federal Capital Territory.
According to the police chief, strategic deployments will target churches, highways, motor parks, recreational centres, and other public spaces, with a combination of tactical teams, intelligence operatives, and conventional officers on the ground.
Special Intervention Squads have also been mobilised to strengthen rapid response capabilities.
The operation will feature heightened visibility policing, coordinated patrols, surveillance operations, and intelligence-led stop-and-search activities designed to deter criminal elements and swiftly neutralise potential threats.
While extending Easter greetings to Christians nationwide, Disu urged citizens to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies, emphasising the importance of reporting suspicious movements through designated emergency lines.
The police leadership expressed optimism that the proactive measures would guarantee a safe and joyous celebration for all Nigerians during the Easter festivities.
