ECOWAS, UK Deepen Security Ties As Region Faces Growing Crisis Pressures

As West Africa grapples with evolving security threats and humanitarian crises, regional bodies are tightening global partnerships to boost readiness and response.

The ECOWAS Commission has held a high-level meeting with the United Kingdom’s Chief of Joint Force Operations, Brigadier Dan Duff, in Abuja, to deepen cooperation on crisis response and military preparedness.

The engagement, led by ECOWAS’ Department of Political Affairs, Peace and Security (PAPS), brought both sides together to share practical lessons on rapid deployment into conflict and emergency situations.

ECOWAS Commissioner for Political Affairs, Peace and Security, Dr Abdel-Fatau Musah, said the dialogue strengthened mutual understanding and built on the growing ECOWAS-UK partnership, with a focus on improving operational readiness and regional stability.

The talks also explored how both partners can better coordinate support for peace operations across West Africa, at a time when timely intervention is increasingly critical.
