CISLAC Urges Public Officials To Uphold Decorum Amid Wike, Military Row
As Nigeria faces growing global scrutiny over governance and accountability, the Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre (CISLAC) has called on public officials to exercise restraint, discipline, and respect for institutions, warning that acts of arrogance and impunity tarnish the country’s image abroad.
In a statement signed by its Executive Director and Head of Transparency International (TI) Nigeria, Auwal Ibrahim Musa (Rafsanjani), CISLAC condemned the recent public altercation between the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, and a military officer, describing it as “gross indiscipline and recklessness unbecoming of a public servant.”
Rafsanjani said government officials must embody civility and accountability, not impunity. “Public officials are supposed to be civil and civilised in carrying out their responsibilities.
The idea of attacking security personnel is unacceptable and sends the wrong message about the nation,” he stated.
The organisation also recalled that Wike is currently under scrutiny following calls by over 50 civil society groups for an investigation into alleged asset concealment and illicit enrichment.
CISLAC commended the military officer for his restraint, noting that his professionalism reflects the integrity of the Nigerian Armed Forces, an institution the group described as “one of the nation’s most respected.”
Urging President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to take decisive action, Rafsanjani warned that “people who lack humility, self-control, and respect for institutional order should not be entrusted with public office.”
CISLAC further advised Wike to apologise to the officer, the military, and the President, stressing that “national security must always come first.”
The statement concluded with a call for leadership that strengthens public trust rather than undermines it, insisting that Nigeria’s international reputation depends on the conduct of those in power.
