Escaped Inmate Captured After Intense Louisiana Manhunt

After days of relentless pursuit, the Louisiana State Police have announced the capture of 28-year-old Derrick Groves, one of ten inmates who dramatically escaped from Orleans Parish Prison on 16 May 2025.

According to authorities, Groves was apprehended late Thursday evening following what officials described as an “intense and coordinated manhunt” that spanned multiple parishes.

Details of his capture remain limited, but police confirmed he was taken into custody without further incident.

Groves’ escape, alongside nine others, had triggered a statewide alert, prompting a massive joint operation involving local law enforcement, U.S. Marshals, and correctional officers.

The breakout sparked widespread concern over prison security and inmate supervision within the Orleans Parish facility.

State Police spokesperson, Lt. Marcus Ellison, commended officers for their perseverance, saying, “The successful capture of Derrick Groves demonstrates our unwavering commitment to public safety.

We will continue working to ensure every escaped inmate is brought back into custody.”

Authorities have not yet disclosed where Groves was found or whether any civilians assisted in his recapture. Investigations are ongoing to determine how the inmates managed to flee and whether inside help was involved.

Meanwhile, the search continues for the remaining fugitives, with police urging residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity.
