Sixteen Military Officers To Face Trial Over Indiscipline and Breach Of Service Rules
In a move to reinforce discipline and uphold professionalism within its ranks, the Armed Forces of Nigeria has announced that sixteen of its officers will face military justice over alleged acts of indiscipline and breaches of service regulations.
According to a statement signed by the Director of Defence Information, Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, the officers were arrested following a routine military exercise that uncovered various cases of misconduct.
Preliminary investigations reportedly linked their actions to grievances over perceived career stagnation, particularly repeated failures in promotion examinations.
The statement further revealed that some of the detained officers were already under military jurisdiction, either awaiting or undergoing trial for other offences.
Their recent conduct, the military said, was found to be inconsistent with the ethics and discipline expected of serving personnel.
General Gusau assured that the indicted officers would undergo a full military disciplinary process in line with established procedures to ensure fairness and accountability.
He reiterated the Armed Forces’ zero tolerance for behaviour that undermines its integrity or threatens its constitutional mandate, emphasising that the ongoing actions are part of routine efforts to maintain order, discipline, and loyalty.
“The Armed Forces of Nigeria remain fully committed to its constitutional responsibilities and will promote professionalism at all times,” the statement concluded.
