Information Minister Engages South-East On Tinubu’s Reform Agenda
The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to inclusive development, economic reform, and transparent governance under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Speaking at a town hall meeting in Enugu on Wednesday, Idris outlined the administration’s eight priority pillars, ranging from economic growth, food security, and infrastructure to education, healthcare, and governance reform.
He noted that bold measures such as fuel subsidy removal and exchange rate unification had created short-term hardship but were now being cushioned through wage increases, cash transfers, and cheaper transport options.
Highlighting projects in the South-East, the Minister cited the ongoing Eastern Railway Corridor modernisation, upgraded healthcare facilities, and the recently commissioned cancer treatment centre in Enugu.
He also pointed to ₦200bn in new business funds for entrepreneurs, regulatory autonomy in the electricity market for Enugu and Imo states, and increased opportunities for young Nigerians through loans, credit schemes, and federal appointments.
Idris said the government’s economic trajectory was already attracting positive signals from global rating agencies, with a $1 trillion economy target set for 2030. “The South-East is at the heart of this vision, not its periphery,” he assured, urging continued collaboration between federal and state governments for national development.
