ADC Rejects Deregistration Ruling, Vows Legal Battle Ahead Of 2027 Polls

With political tensions already building ahead of the 2027 general election, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has strongly rejected a Federal High Court judgment ordering its deregistration, describing the ruling as a threat to Nigeria’s democracy and multiparty system.

In a statement issued on Monday, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, said the ADC would challenge the judgment through all constitutional and legal channels, insisting that only the Independent National Electoral Commission has the power to register or deregister political parties.

The party alleged that the ruling was politically motivated and aimed at weakening opposition forces ahead of the 2027 elections.

Abdullahi accused the government of attempting to retain power through undemocratic means, warning that such actions could undermine political stability.

According to the ADC, the judgment contradicted both constitutional provisions and INEC’s position before the court, while also disregarding a subsisting stay of proceedings issued by the Court of Appeal.

The opposition party further announced plans to petition the National Judicial Council over what it described as judicial misconduct by the presiding judge.

Despite the court ruling, the ADC expressed confidence that it would remain on the ballot in 2027 and urged its members, candidates, coalition partners and supporters to remain calm as it pursues legal remedies.
