Foreign Affairs Ministry Rescues Stranded Nigerian Workers In Central African Republic
The Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs has confirmed the rescue of several Nigerian workers who were left stranded in the Central African Republic (CAR), following a viral video that sparked national concern.
In a statement issued on Tuesday in Abuja, Ministry’s spokesperson Mr Kimiebi Ebienfa revealed that the affected individuals, abandoned by their employers and facilitators in Bambari, a remote region some 850 kilometres from the capital Bangui, are now safely in the custody of the Nigerian Embassy.
“The stranded Nigerian workers in CAR have been successfully rescued,” Ebienfa stated. “They are currently under the care of our embassy in Bangui. This is a commendable effort by our team and the CAR government.”
The rescue operation followed swift action triggered by the viral footage.
The Ministry said it made contact with the victims, liaised with local authorities, and deployed a vehicle to evacuate them from Bambari.
Their passports were recovered, and plans are underway for their temporary accommodation and eventual repatriation.
Ebienfa urged Nigerians seeking work abroad to thoroughly verify job offers and ensure proper documentation before travelling.
He also advised all nationals to register with the Nigerian Embassy upon arrival in any foreign country to ensure timely assistance during emergencies.
“This situation underscores the importance of staying informed and connected while abroad,” he added.
The rescue has been widely praised, with many hailing it as a testament to Nigeria’s growing commitment to the welfare of its citizens overseas.
