Police Dismantle Deadly Kidnap Syndicate, Recover AK-47 and Stolen Livestock in FCT-Nasarawa Raid
A major blow against a violent kidnapping network has brought renewed hope to communities along the FCT-Nasarawa border, where repeated abductions and deadly attacks have fuelled fear in recent months.
The Nigeria Police Force has dismantled a notorious kidnapping syndicate linked to a series of deadly attacks along the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nasarawa border, arresting two suspected members and recovering an AK-47 rifle, live ammunition and suspected stolen livestock.
The intelligence-led operation, carried out by operatives of the Force Intelligence Department, Special Tactical Squad between 24 and 26 June, led to the arrest of Buhari Adamu, 25, and Abubakar Saidu, 28, during coordinated raids in Gbagalape, Mararaba and Abuja.
Police said preliminary investigations connected the suspects to the 16 May attack on Gbagalape community, where several residents were abducted, others killed or injured, and some victims were later murdered despite ransom demands.
Acting on intelligence obtained from the suspects, operatives raided the gang’s hideout at Gbagalape Hills, recovering one AK-47 rifle, 22 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition, 14 cows and three sheep believed to be proceeds of criminal activities.
The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, commended the operatives for the successful operation and reaffirmed the Force’s commitment to sustaining intelligence-led efforts against violent criminal networks.
He also urged members of the public to continue providing credible information to support crime prevention and investigations.
