ECOWAS Court Targets Full Digital Transformation By 2030 To Boost Access To Justice
Access to justice is increasingly being shaped by technology, and the ECOWAS Court of Justice is positioning itself at the forefront of that transformation with an ambitious plan to become fully digital by 2030.
The President of the ECOWAS Court, Justice Ricardo Gonçalves, unveiled the Court’s Electronic Case Management System (ECMS), describing it as a major step towards faster, more transparent and efficient justice delivery across the West African region.
Speaking at the “Go-Live” launch in Abuja, Gonçalves said the secure, multilingual web-based platform will enable electronic filing of cases, digital case management, real-time tracking, electronic notifications and secure communication.
He added that the Court expects at least 80 per cent of legal practitioners to register on the platform within six months, with all new cases to be filed electronically.
Available in English, French and Portuguese, the ECMS is expected to reduce administrative delays, improve transparency and strengthen public confidence in the regional court.
Chief Registrar Dr Yaouza Ouro-Sama described the initiative as a landmark in the Court’s digital transformation, saying it would enhance efficiency, promote accountability and expand access to justice across ECOWAS member states.
