Police Foil Highway Robbery, Rescue Kidnap Victims, Recover Stolen Truck Tyres In Ekit
The Ekiti State Police Command has foiled a highway robbery operation, rescued two kidnap victims and arrested two suspected armed robbers after an intelligence-led operation along the Ikole–Oye Road.
Police said the incident occurred at about 3:00 a.m. on Monday when three armed men attacked a broken-down petrol tanker, robbing the driver and his motor boy of their mobile phones before abducting them into a nearby bush, where they were tied to a tree.
The suspects reportedly returned to the tanker, removed six truck tyres and loaded them into an ash-coloured Ford minibus in an attempt to escape towards Kogi State.
Acting on credible intelligence, operatives of the Safer Highway Patrol intercepted the vehicle, recovered all six stolen tyres and arrested two suspects, identified as Ezekiel Balogun and Usman Wada, both from Kabba, Kogi State.
A third suspect escaped and remains at large.
The arrested suspects later led officers to the location where the abducted driver and his assistant were rescued unharmed.
The case has been transferred to the Command’s Violent Crime Response Unit for further investigation, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspect.
Commissioner of Police Falade Adegoroye Micheal reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property, urging residents to continue providing timely and credible information to support the fight against crime.
