Recognising that lasting security requires more than law enforcement, the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone One, Kano, Garba Ahmed, has pledged full support for Kano State’s Safe Corridor Programme aimed at addressing youth restiveness and political violence through dialogue and rehabilitation.

The commitment was made during a courtesy visit by a high-powered delegation led by the Kano State Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs and Coordinator of the Safe Corridor Programme, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, to the Zone One Headquarters in Kano.

Waiya described the initiative as a strategic intervention by the Kano State Government to curb political thuggery and other social challenges through non-kinetic measures, stressing that collaboration among security agencies, traditional institutions and community stakeholders is crucial to its success.

Responding, AIG Ahmed commended the state government for the initiative, noting that Kano’s status as a major commercial hub makes peace and stability in the state critical to the wider region.

He expressed confidence that the programme would help reduce youth restiveness and “Daba” activities, while assuring the delegation of the Nigeria Police Force’s continued cooperation in promoting peace, security and public safety.

The visit featured traditional rulers and other key stakeholders working to strengthen partnerships for sustainable peace and community development in Kano State.
