NUJ FCT Chair Grace Ike Honoured With Humanitarian Award For Outstanding Service
In a society where impactful leadership and humanitarian service are increasingly celebrated, the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), FCT Council, Comrade Grace Ike, has been recognised for her contributions to social development and community service.
Grace Ike received the Humanitarian Award for Excellence in Service from the Women of Glory Foundation during its 10th anniversary celebration held in Abuja on Saturday.
The foundation also described the NUJ FCT Chair as the “Most Active Journalistic Mobiliser,” citing her leadership role in mobilising journalists and promoting initiatives in the national interest.
The award formed part of activities marking a decade of humanitarian interventions by the Women of Glory Foundation, an organisation dedicated to supporting widows, elderly women, single mothers and other vulnerable groups through empowerment programmes, mentorship, skills acquisition, healthcare support and advocacy.
Speaking at the event, the founder of the foundation, Dr Nneka Evelyn Nzewi, recounted how personal experiences of hardship inspired her mission to uplift struggling women across Nigeria.
According to her, losing her father at a young age and watching her mother struggle to raise five children without support shaped her commitment to helping vulnerable women regain dignity, hope and opportunity.
Receiving the award through the Assistant Secretary of the NUJ FCT Council, Sharon Emephia, Grace Ike commended the foundation for sustaining its humanitarian impact over the past ten years.
“Ten years of sustained impact is no small achievement. It reflects resilience, vision and a deep commitment to service,” she said.
She also expressed appreciation to the organisers for the recognition, noting that the honour reflects the collective efforts of the NUJ FCT Council in promoting truth, development and societal progress.
The anniversary celebration attracted women from diverse backgrounds, including leaders and professionals making significant contributions in various sectors of society.
The Women of Glory Foundation, which has members across Nigeria’s 36 states, reaffirmed its commitment to advancing national development and raising awareness on issues affecting women, children, health, the economy and the environment.
